Forsaken
The feeling of forsakenness is a reality about this walk with Christ that many people do not like to discuss, and people may even tell you that this feeling is not possible. However, if Jesus can feel forsaken and our lives are supposed to portray and do greater works than Him so how can this feeling not be possible? In Matthew 27:46, Jesus states this on the cross and a person proceeds to give him vinegar to drink and then Jesus cried out loudly. The drinking of the vinegar was to afflict more pain because the bystanders wanted to see if Elijah was going to come and save him. How many of us were already feeling down possibly wanting to give up and then it felt as if more people were coming to afflict more pain on you? Surprisingly, this is the moment that God comes to relieve you. In Psalms 37:25, David states, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” What is David trying to tell us and even Jesus? For them to even mention these emotions, it means that they felt this way but after that feeling their reality changed. Over the years, I have come to learn that God answers us the most in our tears and we depend on Him the most when affliction is the highest in our lives. So these emotions are possible, YOU ARE HUMAN. But, God sent Jesus our savior to bear them and to lift you up when life may make you feel forsaken. Remember, forsakenness is not real but sometimes the reality of life can make it feel real. It doesn’t mean that you are less of a Christian or child of God, it just means that God is about to enlarge your territory. He's coming to save you. So Jesus bore this on the cross because He knew that this walk can feel as if people around you are forsaking you and that God has forgotten about you, it just means that you are called to a higher place. You may even be someone who has been chosen. The bible tells us that many are called but few are chosen. So why is it that David asked God in Psalms 22, “Why have you forsaken me” and then in Psalms 37, “I have never seen the righteous forsaken?” This tells us that this feeling is true and somedays when your life begins to change and you actively start pursuing God, this feeling happens. The feeling of forsakenness can be a test to see if you will choose God no matter what circumstances are going on in your life or it might be so you can finally get saved and receive the life that God has called you to have all along. The issue is that we don’t realize what the Bible is. The Bible is a guide, and it tells us what can happen in our lives and how God can move. It can even show us how to pray during these difficult times that we may have to experience. No one is exempt and there are certain things that you have to go through to receive the full glory of God. Remember, God will never leave you nor forsake you but I would do a disservice if I tell you that these feelings are not real. Just know you are almost at your breakthrough and God is about to enlarge your territory and show up strong in your life. It is in our testimonies that draw people to Christ. My advice be honest with God and tell Him how you feel. You’ll be surprised how fast he turns your sorrow into joy. He is a Father, He has to show up and save his child whom he loves. So Father, we thank you for the times we may feel forsaken because we know our savior is on the way to answer us. Father, thank you because your word says where we are weak, you are strong. Father, we thank you for every situation in our lives because its only a part of our stories to be used for your glory. And Jesus, we thank you for your sacrifice. Because you felt forsaken God is able to save us and build us back up. Tune in next week for the blog, “Reality Check,” where I give you the 411 on the state of my marriage thus far.
