The Love of All Things

Love is something we all can understand. We feel love from the beginning of creation. God loves us then our parents then our family then our friends and lastly we look to find companions to feel a different type of love. But what happens when we start to love items we should not, like food, people who are unhealthy for us, or even celebrities? For food, our bodies become unhealthy and we begin to have health issues. In unhealthy relationships, the person ends up doing more damage to our hearts and souls and it becomes difficult to recover. Remember, last week we discussed how we must protect our hearts because the issues of life flow out of them (Proverbs 4:3). So what happens when we fall in love with items that we should not. They become our gods. Anytime, you place anything ahead of spending time with God or even doing what you are supposed to be then this item or person is more important than handling your business. The bible tells us in 1 Timothy 6:10 that “For the love of money [that is, the greedy desire for it and the willingness to gain it unethically] is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves [through and through] with many sorrows (AMP). If we honestly think about it, the love of anything can lead to us longing for it to the point where we have wandered away from God. For example, at one point in life, I really loved Beyonce, you can truthfully ask any of my friends. I mean I would know her dance moves and even quote the songs word from word. I loved her shape, her power, and I even desired the life that she had so when anything new concerning Beyonce would come out, I had to have it. I would buy it, listen to it, and even follow everything concerning her life. Because of my longing to have this type of lifestyle, I completely forgot who my source was in sadness, joy, or peace, I would listen to Beyonce instead of pray, read my word, or even read books that would help my walk with God or life. In fact, during the times where I would not constantly be in communion with God, I felt my saddest and loneliest. During those time where I would ask God why I feel this way, He would tell me to saturate my life in Him then I would start to feel like myself again. The Bible tells us that only God can give us unspeakable joy and perfect peace that passes all understanding. The world cannot give us what God can and being in love with anything that puts you further away from God will only bring you more sorrow. Remember, we shall not put no other gods before Him. Placing anything ahead of God puts that person into His place and that is a big no no. Now am I saying that we should not desire wealth, nice things, or even freedom? Yes, of course we should. God tells us that He will never hold no good thing from us but He also tells us to draw near and He will give us the desires of our hearts. You have to draw near because the farther away you go, the deeper the hole you may feel you are in. I challenge you to lay down the secular music, tv shows, social media, and even friends and family for a while and really dwell with God. Read your word, pray, and even begin to speak to God and see what happens. My biggest breakthroughs in life came when I draw near not before. Some of you all are trying to figure out what happen to your life and why it is not working out the way you perceived. Then go to the source and I promise that artist, tv show, or even food item you love will begin to not be important but His voice, His love, and who He is to you will be the only thing that matters. I am going to tell you one last story because it is on my spirit to do so. To be completely honest with everyone on this blog, I did not feel beautiful until I was 28 years old. For my entire life, I never thought I was good enough and every time I looked in the mirror I would see ugly. Jesus, I mean when any guy would give me attention or call me beautiful, I would give him my time. I mean I would constantly be sad. It was not until I let go of all my distractions, social media, tv shows, my job, food, and people and I drew near to God that I finally could look in the mirror and see beautiful. The Love of Things can really do some extreme damage to your life. The only entity you’re supposed to be in love with is God. He is alpha and omega. He is the creator, and he rules over everything on this Earth. God, we thank you today for your grace and mercy and we are coming to you repenting of placing other things of this world before you. We ask that you break the soul ties we created with these earthly items and anything that we have put ahead of You in our lives. God, we thank you for Jesus because of him we are delivered and set free and now You can come in and restore our lives. God help us to draw near to you. God, we know we only need you, In Jesus Name. Tune in Next Week for the blog, Divorce, where I discuss why you should deal your childhood trauma before entering into anything new. Love you guys and see you next week.
